Zhukov, 22, was sentenced to prison last summer on extremism charges for his videos criticizing President Vladimir Putin during mass protests by activists demanding fair elections.
Zhukov’s comrades on the Telegram correspondence platform posted a photo of his bloody and swollen face, alleging that the blogger was attacked and beaten near his home on Sunday night.

Zhukov was arrested in August last year for his role in mass protests following a ban on independent and opposition candidates from running in local elections.
The guy who studied political science was placed under house arrest and charged with inciting extremism online.
Earlier on Sunday, Zhukov said he had been expelled from graduate studies at the prestigious Moscow Higher School of Economics shortly after joining.
According to the blogger, one of the institution’s administrators told him that such a decision had been made “upon receiving an order from above.”
The Russian opposition complains that after the vote on constitutional amendments, which gave Putin the opportunity to extend his tenure in power, critics of the Kremlin are increasingly attacked and appear in court cases.
Alexei Navaln, one of Russia’s opposition leaders, is currently being treated at a hospital in Berlin after an alleged poisoning, and his allies hold Putin responsible for the incident.
