The residents of Švyturio Street recorded how a resident of one of their houses was stealing mailboxes on the staircase of an apartment building. A camera built into the door of a neighbor’s apartment filmed how a woman sends a child outside to see if no one is coming, and at the same time pulls a package out of the top of a mailbox. The woman quickly tucked it under her blouse.

When asked about the theft by Tomas Meškinis, the elder of the Bomelis Vite nursing home, he claimed that he had seen the video and was aware of it.

“People turn to the elderly for all kinds of problems, including theft. However, in such a case, the police must be informed first, because we cannot take any action, capture or the like,” said T. Meškinis.

To prevent similar thefts, the elder advises residents to install cameras or their enclosures.

“It’s a petty theft, so people just know that someone is stealing and is trying to catch it or is just shaking hands.

Not only for theft, but also for order or garbage, “said T. Meškinis.

According to the old man, many neighbors think that the mailboxes are cleaned or that strangers leave various household items near the containers, but this is done by known neighbors.

“Our group” Vite community “is a preventive measure, not necessarily for theft, but also for parking or littering, so that the neighbors see that they are being monitored and no longer do it. It happens that neighbors take photos and put them in public space, and then people are ashamed of everyone, ”said T. Meškinis.

According to the old man, it is much easier to spot or catch passersby because residents look at them suspiciously. He said that antisocial people had started walking in his area and bullying the children, but after speaking kindly to them, they were no longer stumbling over the area.

“I have told many people to take photos and put them in public space, because our group includes policemen, journalists, representatives of the Municipality and next time they do not even have to write letters, and they themselves take the initiative,” he said T. Meškinis happy.

Notification of theft of a mailbox in one of Švyturio st. in an apartment building received by the police, so the circumstances of the incident are currently being clarified.

“Klaipeda City Police rarely receive reports of this kind. If a person is found guilty, the amount of punishment will depend on the value of the stolen item,” said Asta Kažukauskien jefe, chief specialist of the communications subdivision of the Klaipeda. Klaipėda County Main Police Station.
