Cadets beginning their studies this year have sworn the renewed flag of the Lithuanian Military Academy.
Head of the Academy Col. Juozas Kačergius, who presented the XXXI show, was pleased with the abundance of those who chose the officer’s path: “I sincerely congratulate those who are here, they have certainly taken the first steps of a soldier and today they swear by Lithuania and its people. To all those who have said ‘I swear’ on this day and before, I hope that you do not stop, that you constantly improve and gain as much knowledge as possible in the next studies. “
“The growing number of cadets shows the increasing competitiveness of the Military Academy as the only higher education institution of its kind in Lithuania, as well as the growing attractiveness of the officer profession and, most importantly, the growing citizenship of the society.” said National Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis. – In 30 years, we already have a generation that has not seen the Soviet horror, is free and critical, and that, even without knowing the struggles for freedom, understands its price and the need to protect it. And I will remind the cadets who took the oath that it is not the oath that makes us believe in man, but the man that makes us believe in his oath.
Lithuanian Armed Forces Commander Gen. ltn. Valdemaras Rupšys, addressing the cadets, pointed out that the soldier’s oath is the main and most important oath. “By pronouncing his words, the soldier commits himself to himself, to his friends, to his relatives, to his acquaintances and to his country and its people. Die for others, fight for the freedom of Lithuania, fight to the end, for victory – Gen. ltn said. Valdemaras Rupšys, highlighting the important contribution of the Lithuanian Military Academy in the training of cadets. “The army elite has matured here, the foundations for the future ring of the highest army officers are being laid here and the foundations of Lithuanian statehood are being strengthened here.”
Continuing the tradition, the right to kiss the flag of the Military Academy on behalf of all sworn cadets was awarded to the best cadet, Arnas Kiveris, elected in basic military training.
83 boys and 21 girls, 28 of whom are young shooters, have completed the seven-week Basic Cadet Course at the Lithuanian Grand Hetman Jonušas Radvila’s Training Regiment in Rukla, determined to continue pursuing one of the best life choices: become Lithuanian officers. During the training, they became familiar with the structure, statutes and armaments of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and acquired the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for studies at the Military Academy.
