“Kęstutis Glaveckas and I have been working in politics for many years, we have experience. We both understand that there must be such a faction. Today, in the Mixed Group, we have 13 members of the Seimas, but their actions are not coordinated and there is no single position. In my head, it’s kind of weird. 13 members of the Seimas are a great force and would actually be the third largest Seimas faction. It would depend a lot on such a faction. Both Kęstas understand this and I understand it, but in a month we will find out if the colleagues will agree with that, “R. Žemaitaitis told Eltai.
When asked if he would take the initiative in forming a new faction, R. Žemaitaitis said he did not believe it.
“I don’t think I should be a leader. I wouldn’t really see myself. Furthermore, the leader must be the one with the most places in the same mixed group, ”he said.
According to R. Žemaitaitis, in order to form a faction, the ideological similarity between its members should also be evident. According to the president of the Freedom and Justice Party, this has yet to be seen.
Social workers appear to work alongside conservatives and are the vast majority. It is not entirely clear what position they are taking. All the last votes, where the statute of the Seimas is seriously violated, still supported the rulers. Also Algirdas Butkevičius, who is happy to speak out against the opposition, but votes completely differently. Apparently he also needs March to finally realize the kind of politics he’s still imagining, whether he supports more of the right or the left. He supported the right forces for the past month. It would be prudent for A. Butkevičius to join any liberal or conservative movement ”, considered R. Žemaitaitis.
According to him, whether the new faction will be formed should be clear at the beginning of the spring session of the Seimas.
“Thoughts like the coronavirus really float in the air. We will see if the comrades of the Mixed Group become infected, it is necessary to form the group together. But I think this issue will become clear in the new session, we will coordinate positions in March. Now I really doubt it, because it is impossible to meet, I am not going to talk about those things on the phones either. In direct communication, it is possible to purify and generate ideas, which is exactly what we all imagine, “R. Žemaitaitis told Eltai.
The Seimas member says the center right would also benefit from the formation of a new faction.
“I will certainly support that idea and the group should definitely come together. That would be much smarter. For the same majority, there are many problems with the vote, as the budget approval has shown. There will be projects in the future that will need support, this new faction it could provide support in return (the reunited faction – ELTA) could also highlight its own position ”, commented R. Žemaitaitis.
Currently, the Joint Group of Members of the Seimas is made up of the following parliamentarians: Rita Tamašunienė, Jonas Pinskus, Valdemaras Valkiūnas, Vytautas Bakas, Zigmantas Balčytis, Algirdas Butkevičius, Kęstutis Glaveckas, Petras Gražulis, Domas Griusškevičius, Domas Griusškevičius
