From town to space

The name of the Karoliniškės district was born as a part of other Vilnius districts – according to the town that was in that place. This was called Karolinka. Kazimieras Rimantas Balėnas, a young architect from Klaipėda, and his wife Genovaite Balėnienė were invited to create Karoliniškės. To be unique, the theme of space and celestial bodies was chosen: the stores “Kometa”, “Mercury”, “Saturn” were invited to go shopping, the streets are called Perkūnas, Žvaigždžiai, Žaibo, Vorulis, Moonis. The construction of Karoliniškių Street started in 1970, and in 1976 the construction of the residential area was basically completed. What to visit in Karoliniškės today – on the route HERE.

Back to nature

This route is not the only “Vilnius part-time” offer for activities in Karoliniškės. An ornithological route dedicated to this district, and more precisely to a unique part of it, the Karoliniškės Landscape Reserve, was also published in the summer. Therefore, those traveling on the new Karoliniškės route are advised to extend the journey and pay attention to observing the nature of the reserve and its inhabited inhabitants. The detailed route “Chirping Karoliniškės Slopes” can be found HERE.
