The Minister of the Environment, Simon Gentville, spoke in public these days.

When asked exactly when the relevant bill could be prepared and what the annual fee could be, Marijus Gailius, communication advisor to the minister, informed the portal tv3.lt:

“We cannot yet name a specific model or specific prices. So far, the minister’s priorities with the team include modeling long-term structural change. Guidelines for the renewal of the car pollution tax are likely to be published in the second quarter of this year. “

According to the advisor, in this case the laws would probably not change and the market will be ready by July 1, which means that it would take effect in six months, at the earliest from 2022. January 1

“I can only assure you that these issues have been declared a high priority by the Minister and will not be delayed,” commented M. Gailius.

According to him, the Ministry of the Environment so far only has a vision of the future car tax, which is reflected in the citizens and in the government program.

By the way, there are only two weeks left until 2021. February 1 5 pm, when residents can claim compensation for a new purchase of an electric car.

The amount of compensation for an applicant for the purchased used electric car is 2 thousand. 4 thousand euros for the purchase of a new electric car. euros. An additional thousand. A compensation of 1 million euros is paid to the applicant who destroyed the old vehicle.

So at this point it is extremely beneficial to ditch an old car and buy a new or used electric car.

We remind you that the Ministry of the Environment, formerly headed by the current Minister of Agriculture Kęstutis Navickas, had already prepared a similar tax. It differed from the adopted and now in force only in the amounts of the tax and in that it was intended to be paid annually and not once the vehicle was registered.

As already announced, on January 11 of this year. Statistics Lithuania has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the fiscal year. The motor vehicle registration tax was recalculated accordingly. Previously approved rates have been multiplied by 1,002.

The amount of the tax varied between € 0.03 and € 1.08, depending on the car’s CO2 emissions and the type of fuel.

(Low registers)

For example, if the CO2 emissions of a gasoline car are 165 g / km, the statutory tax is € 60. Multiplying it by the indexation coefficient of 1.002, the amount of the fee will be 60.12 euros. Therefore, the change is 0.12 Eur.

We remind you that the registration tax applies to cars and light commercial vehicles, depending on the type of fuel and its combinations, and whose CO2 emissions exceed 130 g / km.

It must be paid when registering the car for the first time. In other words, when you want to register a new or imported car. Also in cases where the driver of the car changes. For example: a car previously operated in Lithuania is registered in the name of another driver, the right to drive the car is granted to someone else on the basis of a long-term lease, etc. The fee also applies to the new registration of a vehicle after its deregistration. The most common case is when the temporary registration period expires.

The tax came into effect in 2020. July. During the second half of last year, a total of 15.42 million were paid. EUR of this tax for 171.1 thousand. vehicle registration.
