I. Ždanovas confirmed to the “Interfax” news agency that similar accusations had been made against him and L. Volkov.
The day before, the Investigation Commission announced that A. Navalns himself had been accused of founding an organization that would violate the rights of citizens.
“Navaln has created a non-profit organization that acts as a foreign agent, the Anticorruption Fund (FBK),” Svetlana Petrenko, a spokeswoman for the committee, told reporters.
The FBK and some other Navaln organizations were declared “extremists” in June because they allegedly intended to carry out an “uprising” in Russia with the help of Western countries.
According to S. Petrenko, A. Navalnas, together with his comrades, including I. Ždanovas and L. Volkovas, has led the FBK since 2011.
“The activities of the Foundation were related to encouraging citizens to commit illicit acts. Navalnas, Volkov, Zhdanov and others distributed publications on their personal websites and on the pages of the FBK urging Russian citizens to participate in unauthorized demonstrations in January this year, “said a representative of the Investigation Committee.
Interfax has not yet commented on A. Navalnas’ attorneys.
The respective criminal case was filed in April against A. Navalnas, the head of its network of regional offices L. Volkov and the director of FBK I. Ždanov.
Both L. Volkov and I. Ždanovas have left Russia and are currently working in Lithuania. Navaln has been convicted in a long-standing fraud case that he considers political and has been serving his sentence in the colony since mid-March.
