Thus began our knowledge of the surroundings of Sigulda in the Gauja National Park in Latvia, from the extreme entertainment, which requires a lot of courage to decide. In one of the most beautiful places in the Gauja river valley there is a cable car that connects two banks, from Sigulda to Krimulda.
In the same rope there is an attraction for lovers of adrenaline: a flight “hung” by belts, a head forward over the treetops and a wide river valley, “Zērglis”.

So, having accumulated value, we embarked on this unique entertainment in the Baltic countries. We lay down on special padded platforms and started wearing seat belts on all sides.

“Give me a napkin, my palms are already wet!” Modesta yelled again just before the flight.
“Soon, immediately,” he learned to speak Lithuanian. brothers and sisters the Latvians shelved it instantly.
The preparation, which lasted about 10 minutes, was a lot of horror: the knowledge that we would only be tied in parallel with a rope and we would almost go down the kilometer wide Gauja valley, we crossed our legs, the palms of our hands were sweating a lot and the emotion was brutal.
Brothers and sisters we checked all the belts, wondered if we were feeling good (mhm, just great …), we put the cameras on the sticks in our hands, we got up from the platforms with the touch of a button, we turned on the video recording and … .
Flight – it was fiction! Up to 60 km / h. the speed achieved, the matted hair, the images of extraordinary beauty from a bird’s eye view (about 55 m) and the euphoric feeling of freedom compensated for all the fear and horror in the preparation of this short but memorable experience.
A flight like this costs 99 euros for two people, and for 15 euros you can film yourself and have a quality video to remember.
You will find the cable car at J. Poruka str. 14, in Sigulda. Those who want to admire the views can also take a simple elevator: the Sigulda-Krimulda-Sigulda route costs between 8 and 14 euros per person.

After the flight, the experience is already on the ground.
Flying over the treetops is just one way to love this natural gem. After the acquaintance above, our journey in Sigulda continued on land. And it was no less a fascinating experience.
So what can you do and see in Sigulda? Here are a ton of tips and attractions that we have tried and visited ourselves.

The new castle of Sigulda (built in 1878) and its neighborhood are called the pearl of national romanticism, the home of writers and journalists. There are several workshops in the castle quarter, where craftsmen and artists work, you can buy unique Latvian products and see the birth of handmade ceramics, textiles, jewelry, woodwork and masterpieces that are reminiscent of the ancient history of Latvia. Winding tracks, surrounded by ancient forests, fabulous natural objects that open each time, such as the Caldera de la Bruja, Devonian sandstone outcrops, Gutman’s cave, springs and springs. Sigulda has one of the five Tarzans parks in Latvia, which is adapted for the whole family.
Sigulda can also be visited in winter: there are ski slopes (Ramkalni) and bobsleigh, in winter you can see the view and take a lift.
On a hot day: Latvian cold borscht
An intense day of attractions in Sigulda ended with examples of Latvian cuisine at the new doors of ESI Cafe (Pils iela 4b, Sigulda).

Since the day we visited this land was terribly hot, the best option was cold borscht. Yes, Latvians have them and produce them too, but we serve them a little differently than we do in Lithuania.
Those who have been to Latvia and ate cold beets, know that they are served here without potatoes! As one Latvian told me: “We are not Lithuanians, we do not eat cold borscht with potatoes.”
And the cold borscht was crisp, acidic, and thick.

After the cold borscht, another perfect summer day dish, a shrimp and various veggie dish with sweet potato fries, local berries, and exotic fruits. Great choice for the summer. The prices of the meals here are average, from 4-5 to about 20 euros.
