After receiving a notification from one of the Kaunas pharmacies that a review of prescriptions for psychotropic drugs had begun in December of the previous year and suspicions of a possible over-purchase of drugs.
Upon verification of the information provided by the pharmacy, a pre-trial investigation for document forgery was initiated pursuant to Article 300 of the Penal Code at the Kaunas County LSC Kaunas District Police Station. 1 d. and due to the illegal disposal of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances without the purpose of their distribution in accordance with article 259 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania. 1 d.

In the initial stage of the study, it was found that psychotropic drugs with counterfeit prescriptions were bought at a pharmacy up to 24 times.
Continuing with the investigation, officials also clarified the suspect, a man known to Kaunas police, already convicted of a drug-related crime, born in 1971.
After the suspect was arrested on February 10, during the search, almost 150 tablets of psychotropic drugs, a bag of white powder, and about 50 prescriptions were found and confiscated, one of which was already sealed by a doctor.
The suspect was in preventive detention for two months. Officials are investigating whether all the drugs purchased were used solely for their own needs.

Currently, 10 prescriptions have been taken from the aforementioned Kaunas pharmacy, according to which psychotropic drugs were purchased. According to these prescriptions, the amount of psychotropic active substance is 0.66 grams, so the violation of art. 1 d. reclassified as a crime under article 260. 3 d. (illicit possession of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances for the purpose of illicitly distributing or possessing very large quantities of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances).
Police officers sent inquiries to all pharmacy chains about the use of such potentially counterfeit prescriptions. It is believed that the scope of the study can be expanded significantly, as psychotropic drugs may have been purchased from many pharmacies in the city and Kaunas district.
For falsification of a document or alienation of a forged document in accordance with article 300 of the Penal Code. 1 d. the person faces a fine or arrest, or imprisonment for up to three years.
For illicit possession of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances for the purpose of their distribution or illicit disposal of very large quantities of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances in accordance with art. 3 d. the man faces up to 10 to 15 years in prison.
The investigation is organized and led by prosecutors from the 6th Division of the Kaunas District Prosecutor’s Office of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
