In Rokiškis district, more than 300 wards were vaccinated against the coronavirus in the Skemai welfare home in mid-January, but a 67-year-old resident categorically refused the vaccination. And the coronavirus patient promised to treat himself.

Such self-medication for the ward sadly ended: the man died on January 25 from COVID-19. According to the director of the social welfare home, the ward did not go to discuss vaccinations.

“Such a tragic fate that a person fell ill after less than two weeks, was taken to Rokiškis Central Hospital and anapilin left there after a day. This antiviral movement has shown that this disease is difficult to overcome,” says Gintaras Girštautas , director of welfare homes.

The Covid-19 director also convinced some staff members to get vaccinated, as not all wanted to get vaccinated. Some still fear not the deaths but the side effects of the vaccine.

The Drug Control Service received 311 complaints of side effects during the month

The State Agency for Drug Control reports how many complaints about such symptoms have occurred since the start of the omission in a month. During this time, some 70,000 people received the vaccine, of which the service received 311 calls from the population for an adverse reaction. There were 297 reports from Pfizer and BioNTech vaccines and only 13 from Moderns, as the vaccines were introduced much later.

Most people complain of mild reactions: fever, pain or redness at the injection site, chills, general weakness.

True, the service also received 13 reports of serious side effects, for which people even had to see a doctor. Residents complained of shortness of breath, arrhythmias. One patient developed severe lymph node swelling after vaccination, and another was diagnosed with muscle swelling.

“Severe headaches, dizziness, a couple of people fainted or fainted, nausea, severe vomiting. There is a case of a serious side effect, anaphylaxis, in which the person has low and weak blood pressure. But we cannot say that it was really anaphylaxis, ”says Rugilė Pilvinienė, advisor to the Drug Control Service.

One person was vaccinated but died; is not associated with vaccination

And one week after the COVID-19 vaccination, a 67-year-old man at high risk died. According to the Medicines Control Agency, this case is not related to the vaccine.

Specialists consider that the sudden death of a man is a coincidence, since the person had many comorbidities, cardiovascular problems, in addition to using immunosuppressive drugs due to a previous organ transplant.

“We received a report of death in a patient who was vaccinated with the first dose of the vaccine 7 days ago. However, it should be noted that there were no adverse reactions in that person after vaccination. The patient suffered a sudden death that the reporting physician considered unrelated to vaccination. He was just a very risky patient. We reached the same conclusion: that the death was accidental, it coincided with the recent vaccination ”, says R. Pilvinienė.

Some reactions – lboth unexpected

True, after vaccination, some people also complained of unexpected reactions, which the manufacturer does not specify in the characteristics of the vaccine. After the vaccine, dozens of people dissolved their faces, limbs, tongue and increased blood pressure.

A young patient was diagnosed with facial paralysis that remitted within a few days. Doctors explain that side effects occur in different ways depending on the human body. The reaction after a vaccine that protects against Covid-19 and death is completely normal, as antibodies are produced and immunity develops.

“It’s just that the body reacted more violently to the vaccine and produced more antibodies. I just developed a stormy inflammatory response. That’s fine, the body reacted to the enemy behind the door and destroyed it with heavy artillery,” Božena said Markevič, an internal medicine physician at the Santara Clinics.

According to the Medicines Control Agency, reports of adverse reactions in Lithuania account for about 4 tenths percent of the number of vaccinated doses. During the month more than 84 thousand doses of vaccines were used in Lithuania and almost 70 thousand people were vaccinated, some of them also received the second vaccination. Compared with other countries in the European Union, the number of complaints about adverse reactions in Lithuania is similar.

“In Ireland, 0.33 percent. In Estonia, 0.8 percent. But there are also countries where there are far fewer reports, in Germany: 0.06 percent. We are not exceptional when trying to assess the average.” says Gytis Andrulionis, Head of the Medicines Control Service.

Vaccine Educators

Teachers are also vaccinated against coronavirus in Lithuania on a priority basis. It is planned to vaccinate about 2,000 employees of educational institutions at the Kaunas Central Post Office in two days.

“You hear all kinds of opinions and you really don’t want those side effects, that vaccine. That vaccine developed very quickly, ”says educator Deiminta.

“Whatever it is, it will be, there may be a trigger effect of each vaccine. I do not rule out the possibility that it still is. That is why we do not get sick,” says educator Ramunė.

“Perhaps there was a bit of hesitation, but the decision is clear that vaccination is necessary and should be done,” said Master Eglė.

When vaccinating educators begins, the ministry announces that vaccinations are not mandatory for teachers and those who refuse to be vaccinated cannot be fired. It is true that those who do not want to be vaccinated will have to take the prophylactic test every 10 days. If you don’t want to take the test, you won’t be able to work.

According to the Ministry of Education and Sports, around 30,000 teachers should be vaccinated as a priority.
