Kaunas “Žalgiris” started the first and third quarters with the same initial five: Emmanuel Mudiay, Lukas Lekavičius, Edgar Ulanov, Tyler Cavanaugh and Joffrey Lauvergne.
We can guess a similar five from the first minute of the match and in Euroleague fights, only instead of reactive Luke we will see Janis Strelniekis, who joined the team this summer.
The Latvian, who celebrated his 32nd birthday on September 1, is still going through trauma and was the only player from the Žalgiris core who did not run on the floor yesterday.
It is impossible to draw momentous conclusions after the first friendly match, when the basketball player has recently completed a physical training camp, and one cannot speak of team play and mutual understanding.
Lots of experiments and game flaws, but let’s take a closer look at some individual performances by the Žalgiris players who joined the club this summer.
Emmnuelis Mudiay – 21 points (7/13 two, 1/4 trit, 4/4 penalty), 2 rebounds and 3 interceptions, 5 assists, 0 errors and 22 utility points.
The loudest off-season buy showed his skills in the first friendly match. The most talented basketball player, who stepped onto the parquet of the Sabonis Basketball Center on Wednesday night.
Physical fitness is still not the best that has been shown in the NBA Summer League. Add to that a lack of European basketball experience, and we get that he had trouble on his side of the court – he asked the players, got in the way of the barriers, and fell asleep.
But everything was countered by an attack in which E.Mudiay looked like a locomotive from which the Lokomotiv contact flew sideways.
Impressive progress in both directions, good creation of personal opportunities from a medium distance, but he also shared well the effective passes and teammates. The player’s two-on-two connections with the athletic centers of Žalgiris were successful and the ball caught in the air was able to charge hard into the basket. There will be many such combinations in the coming season.
Advances based on the physical strength of a huge African will become a problem for Euroleague players, who seem to have to stop him often with fouls.

Not so well done Josho Nebo performance, although he scored 8 points (2/3 doubles, 4/4 penalty) in 11 minutes, bounced 2 balls, blocked the shot, but committed three fouls.
This rookie may need more time to adjust to Euroleague basketball. The material is obvious: a fast, strong and incredible spring with legs in the legs, but it will take time to understand the top level of European basketball.

Tyleris cavanaugh Žalgiris Insider showed his viewers his arsenal of skills, which he is famous for throughout his career, already in his debut match.
At first he looked mischievous, but in the end he was the second player on the Kaunas team in terms of brilliance, scoring 16 points in 21 minutes (0/1 double, 4/6 trit., 4/4 penalty), he rebounded. 5 balls, made a successful pass, twice made a mistake and recorded 17 utility points.
First of all, a beautiful and deadly shot from afar. The tallest scored two straight triples in the second half and added two more in the fourth, during which he scored a total of 10 points.
T.Cavanaugh became the main reason why “Žalgiris” got up and was close to victory.
A commendable American sacrifice. Although it was a friendly match, the ball flew both to the podium and to the parquet.
Let’s not forget T.Cavanaugh’s transfer candy, which he handed over to Joffrey Lauvergne’s back.
He had problems in defense, but not in defense, and he was bought.
The tall man only competed in fourth place, but it would be interesting to see him also on the center forward sled. He is the only basketball player on the Žalgiris team who can widen the field from fifth position. Over the course of the season, T. Cavanaugh’s golden handle could become a powerful weapon against threatening rival centers.

The throws were made from grateful positions but they did not reach the goal. The basketball player showed solid work on his side of the court, taking the ball twice with skillful hands and hitting the ball several times.
On the attack: a successful hit, an attempt to play with the back and climb “on the board.”
He can be a solid role player in Žalgiris.

The last two “newcomers”: Edgar ulanov and Kalnietis blankets. The first returned to Kaunas a year later, the second after a five-year break.
It’s hard to say anything new about the players who are known to Lithuanian basketball fans.
Mantas was looking for two-on-two situations, still limping to control the pace of the game and fending off the Lokomotiv defenders. However, this is only the first preparation match.
It is funny that we have repeatedly seen E. Ulanov playing from behind, which he practically did not do last year for the Fenerabahche team in Istanbul. Although the pitches did not drop, it is a sign that Martin Schiller will try to exploit the elite weapon of this left-handed forward from a third position.
You can also tell that the coach encouraged Edgar to attack from a distance: three long throws in 28 minutes.
Statistically, the best season for E. Ulanov was in the 2017-2018 season, when “Žalgiris” marched to the final four in the Euroleague, and Ula accumulated 10.7 utility points.
Perhaps with the confidence of such a coach, Kaunas will be able to cross this record limit next season?
