A Lithuanian who works for the rich has awakened his strangest desires: others would never think of that

Kristina settled in Vilnius, she worked at a large stock exchange, but sitting in front of a computer screen she was tired and life took a different direction – she has been working as yacht managers for five years.

“It is a job where you work and travel. It is an opportunity to be in places where you would not have the opportunity to be, in cities like Portofino or the Amalfi Coast, Monaco. This is one of the main reasons why I chose this area ”, said the interlocutor.

From an office chair to a yacht

The girl does not hide that it is not easy for beginners in this field; many people try, but unfortunately sometimes success develops. Because the requirements are not low, it is necessary to know the languages, and the chances that those who come without experience will get a job are quite low.

“It is quite difficult for people who are just starting out, unless they have experience in restaurants, hotels. You need to speak excellent English, other languages are also a great advantage: French, Spanish, Italian, Russian. And I speak Russian myself, because many Russians are ship owners or guests. “

K. Bezrodnaya is lucky and has been established in his field for five years. But as if it were yesterday, he remembers the hardships he had to face when changing from office to yacht, jumping from sedentary work to the slight physical effort that he faces at work.

“Leaving office work was physically difficult. There is a difference of 8 hours sitting in front of a computer screen, talking on the phone and standing all day. When normal physical work is not impossible, it is better to move more and sit less in front of the computer ”, recalls the interlocutor.

And now things are not so simple. Carolina only signs contracts to work during the summer season, during which she has to visit countries where summers are very hot. It is true that it only works in a few countries: Spain, Italy, France and Greece. The unbearable summer heat is frustrating and takes time to adjust.

When asked what responsibilities fall on the shoulders of yacht hostesses, it seems that the interlocutor could name her non-stop: she spends her afternoon time in the morning fulfilling the wishes of the owners and guests.

“The stewardess is practically the first person to wake up, tidy up the boat, prepare breakfast for the owner, tidy up all the cabins. If the owners are taking a bath, they may want drinks, cocktails, they should be prepared. If you want to have lunch on board, you need to prepare a table, decorations, arrange everything in the afternoon. The entire interior of the boat is my responsibility.

If something breaks, I have to order it, make sure it gets delivered. Of course, also everything that concerns the owners and their dedicated time. If you want to book some kind of tour, I have to do it myself. Even if I want to order food, I do, ”said K. Bezrodnaya.

Smaller ships have a closer connection

The stereotype that the job of hostesses is to decorate the environment with their beauty is still deeply ingrained, but Carolina is convinced and sees from experience that a lot depends on the part of the continent where she works. In one place this work is highly valued and desired, and in another it is equated with the duties of a servant.

“In Western Europe, our work is highly valued and many people dream of and try to enter this industry. It seems to me that our work is not very well known in Eastern Europe, where it is still believed that the job of hostesses is simply to be beautiful, stand in a corner and smile. But there are stereotypes here. I spend most of my time in the West, everyone who knows what my job is, understands that it is physically difficult, but it is worth it with travel, impressions and a good salary ”.

Additionally, she chooses jobs on smaller vessels, where she enjoys a closer relationship with the owners and guests, creating an opportunity to feel more appreciated and the owners getting to know the entire crew.

“The contact with the crew is closer because the small boats, a small crew and the owners know the names of all the crew members. Of course, if you work on a huge yacht, the owner will not even remember what it is called and what it is like, the crew members are more helpful staff there. In smaller boats, the contact can be much more friendly ”, shares the girl.

Carolina is happy that in a smaller company, there is almost no competition from other hostesses, which can be really fierce.

“It just came to our notice then. If the young stewardess has the goal of becoming boss, of course she will do her best. I have heard stories of younger stewardesses trying to take on positions of responsibility or compromise them. Dramas happen, but they don’t I had to deal with it, “smiles the girl.

When asked what is the biggest difficulty she faces at work, Carolina is open; He doesn’t face that problem, but many don’t like the small space where he has to push with the whole team.

“Some people don’t like the fact that our cabins are small. It’s not a problem for me, but I know people who don’t like to share a bathroom. When people are used to living independently in their own apartment, moving into a small cabin and sharing everything with others can be quite difficult. “

Receive the strangest wishes

Sometimes friendships are formed with the owners or guests. Carolina remembers with a smile the occasion when two guests from the ship invited the entire crew to dinner and ended the evening with fun. For a while, the girl kept in touch with them and remembers the guests as simple, cool and intelligent people.

“We had two guests when I was working on a ship in the south of France, who invited all the crew members to visit the most famous restaurant in Saint-Tropez, which is visited by all the celebrities. I never dreamed of getting there, but we had a great time, after dinner we were invited to a disco, which we went without queuing as a VIP.

It is very funny that people who can rent a boat invite the crew to have a good time together, without thinking that the crew is the service personnel ”, the interlocutor happily recalls.

However, not all guests enjoy a fun time together. There are strange quirks that require a lot of effort.

“It is very common for people to have a lot of money and no longer know what to do with it. Like everywhere, there are probably strange people at such a high level. These are people who can afford it all, so those quirks seem normal to them, “Bezrodnaya said, adding that the strangest requests come from Russians.

Champagne mussels for breakfast at 7 AM, flower orders by 3 PM, nothing new in Carolina. With a smile, he also remembers the guest’s request to another crew member to catch the jellyfish and check if it really bites.

But the most memorable event in the girl’s memory is in Monaco, during the Grand Prix. He laughs that he still tells this story to everyone: “I worked on a boat that they rented there, it was rented by three French people who brought maybe 10 panels who spoke neither French nor English, all Russian and Ukrainian. I remember one saying to me: “It is better to be here than at home, somewhere in a Russian town.”

It is probably impossible to expect otherwise when alcohol is freely spilled. With the proliferation of drinks, guests start asking for impossible things, work hours get longer, and some get rude. However, the girl who works as the stewardess on the yacht says she doesn’t feel insecure; after all, there are other team members who help solve problems.

There is a desire to leave everything every day.

Carolina sees the benefits for her of working as a yacht hostess – although she has to bother from morning to night, it pays off not only with a good salary, but also with the new skills she learns on the job. For example, while traveling for work, you learned French and Italian by interacting with people, which is more effective than language courses.

“I had a good office job, but all communication was done by phone or email. When I found myself in this industry where I needed to interact with high-ranking people face-to-face, I gained experience in communication. During those 5 years, I learned to analyze people very quickly, and this is one of the things that will be useful to me in later life, ”says K. Bezrodnaya.

She feels that the girl loves her work very much, she could talk about it without interruptions, but she does not hide that the idea of leaving everything is visited almost every day. Intense physical effort, small rooms where you have to live with other members of the crew, all the presence between people is exhausting.

“When you work in the office, you just finish work, you go home and you can rest alone. This is not the case on board: you always work or rest with other crew members. It is very frustrating and sometimes you cannot find a connection to the team because it is not easy to start living with strangers. Sometimes they start thinking: “I better live alone in an apartment with a cat.” But those thoughts come and go, rest and have a good day again (Serie). “

When asked what is the greatest advantage she gets in this job, the girl does not doubt it: the opportunity to visit the most remote corners, which she may never visit, and now she does not know if she will return there.

“We really have enough time to see the places we travel to, we have varnish to go out. This is the greatest luxury because we have the opportunity to see the same thing as the shipowners. It’s so much fun being in a new city every day. You wake up and you’re somewhere else, you run into town to get fresh bread for breakfast. It’s a lot of fun and it motivates me because I understand that I have the opportunity to see cities and towns that maybe I haven’t even visited.
