Robert Trimailov, 46, who declared his place of residence in Alytus last week, was sentenced by the Canterbury Crown Court to 9 years in prison for drug trafficking to England.
On April 5 of this year, border guards found up to 24 kilograms of cocaine in a truck driven by him at the Dover port checkpoint; the drugs were hidden in the cabin of a vehicle registered in Lithuania.
That amount of drugs on the black market would be worth around a million pounds.
Martin Grace, a representative of the National Crime Agency who carried out the investigation, described Lithuania as an envoy carrying out instructions from more powerful drug trafficking organizers.
“Envoys like Robert Trimailov should not waver in our determination to catch them and defend justice,” the official told reporters after the sentencing.
This is not the first time that Lithuanian truckers who have contributed to the drug trade have been caught in England.
