On Thursday, Kalvarija border guard officers from the SBGS Varėna border team stopped the BMW 535D with German numbers, which had just arrived from Poland, within the limits of Akmeniai village in Lazdijai district. Its driver disobeyed the instructions of the uniformed border guards who were on the side road next to the official Škoda Octavia Scout car and flew towards Lazdijai, reports SBGS.

Border guards chased him with lights and beeps on. The fugitive escaped from the agents at a speed exceeding 170 km / h.

About 5 km from the stop of the BMW 535D, border guards saw a chased car heading off the road into a ditch. The fugitive is suspected of attempting to turn from the main road to the side road, but did not control the car due to high speed.

By the time the border guards raced toward the BMW 535D, the driver had already left. SBGS officials promised to survey the forest here. Shortly after, approximately half a kilometer from where the BMW 535D took off, SBGS officers detained a man who was hiding in the woods.

It turned out he was a 23-year-old Kaunas resident suspected of driving a BMW 535D. Calvary border guards soon found out that this 2011 search for the show car as stolen was announced the day before by Dutch officials.

A pre-trial investigation has been launched in the Varėna border team of the SBGS in relation to the acquisition or sale of criminally obtained assets. Such a crime is punishable by a fine or arrest, or imprisonment for up to 4 years.

The detained Kaunas residents were detained by border guards and were still questioned at noon on Friday.

The car is kept at the Kalvarija border barrier.
