Two EuroLeague teams met in the United League and Zenit Saint Petersburg (2/15) achieved an important victory. 74:71 (22:19, 17:10, 20:17, 15:25) broke CSKA Moscow (5/11).
CSKA was alone in the first half, then Zenit started to take the lead and at the beginning of the last quarter it felt quite calm, 61:46.
Still, CSKA’s streak reached 9: 0 (61:68), and 3-pointers by Daniel Hackett and Johannes Voigtmann narrowed the gap even further: 69:72. Will Thomas and Voigtmann exchanged a couple more shots, but CSKA failed to start the extension: Darrun Williard was out of reach.
A.Gudaitis was next to a double-double: in 29 minutes he scored 10 points (4/5 doubles, 2/3 penalties), bounced 9 balls, blocked 4 shots, caused 7 fouls, once he broke the rules and scored 21 utility points.
Lithuania was Zenit’s most useful player.
Kevin Pangs (6 res.), Followed by W. Thomas (7th) and Austin Hollins added 17 points.
CSKA added 19 points from J. Vaigtmann, hitting all three triples and bouncing 8 balls, 14 points – on the count of D.Hackett, 13 – D.Hillardo (0/6 trit.).
