More than 700 representatives of the cultural field are fighting for this, and extremely famous faces have joined the fight against P. Gražulis. Already in early December, the creators submitted a request to the Seimas, but did not receive any response.
“PAGS. Gražulis is not eligible to be a member of the culture committee due to competition, education, education, lack of culture and personal image that he has been creating in public space for many years,” shared representatives of culture in a Facebook address on Thursday.
According to them, in December they went directly to the Seimas without the media and public social networks, believing that the voice of the artists would be heard, but received no response.
“We have not received any response for almost two months. Therefore, we now turn to the public, darkart, to express our position in the field of culture that we nurture in our daily work in theater, film, dance, music, art and many other fields of art We kindly invite all who support culture to share this message.
Despite difficult circumstances, we dedicate all our efforts to promote Lithuanian culture, but we see the indifference of government people towards culture as a priority area of the state. The involvement of incompetent and culturally controversial individuals in the formulation of cultural policies is extremely painful.
We unanimously oppose the inclusion of the Seimas member P. Gražulis in the ranks of the Seimas Culture Committee of the Republic of Lithuania. Their activities, speeches, public conflicts with police officers, lack of respect for the inherent dignity and self-expression of each person, declared values not only have nothing to do with the concept of culture. On the contrary, it divides society, increases exclusion and prevents further development of culture ”, say the representatives of culture.
According to the promoters of the appeal, the representatives of culture are not only creators, but also citizens who choose power and, therefore, want to be represented in the Seimas of those responsible.
“People of culture are strong not only in their works, but also in unity, if necessary to unite for the common goal. The improvement and development of the cultural field is determined not only by the personal ideas of the creators, but also by environmental factors. That is, a team of decision makers at the Seimas. The appointment of Petras Gražulis as members of the Culture Committee of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania does not respond to the needs of the cultural community.
We creative people await a response from the people who rule Lithuania. In our opinion, the Culture Commission is not the place to appoint people who have not been wanted in other commissions. On the contrary, in the Culture Commission we want the members to be moved by ideas, suggestions, good will for all members of society, competition.
We demand that Petras Gražulis not be included in the members of the Culture Committee of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. Culture is not just about human action. Culture is an action for the benefit of all people. We hope that the Seimas approves it ”, write the creators.
Seimas Response
The Culture Committee submitted a public response to the cultural and artistic community regarding Seimas member Petras Gražulis:
The Culture Committee of the Seimas, in response to the request of the representatives of culture and art about the appointment of the member of the Seimas Petras Gražulis as a member of the Culture Committee, addressed the Ethics and Procedures Commission of the Seimas, as well as to the mixed members of the Seimas for another structural subdivision of the Seimas. To date, a mixed group of Seimas members has not submitted a response to the Committee.
In accordance with article 76 of the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania, the structure and procedure of the Seimas will be established by the Statute of the Seimas, which has the force of law. According to article 10, paragraph 2, of the Seimas Statute, each member of the Seimas must be a member of a committee and participate in the activities of that committee.
Points 5 and 6 of article 44 of the Statute of the Seimas establish that the Conference of Elders approves the norms of representation of the factions and the Mixed Seimas in all the committees in accordance with the principle of proportional representation, and the positions in the committees according to the number of seats approved by the Seimas. It should be noted that membership in one or the other committee is decided only by the faction to which the Seimas member belongs.
Article 621 of the Statute of the Seimas, which determines the activities of the Committee, does not give the Committee the right to decide on the membership of a member of the Seimas, therefore, once again we publicly urge the Joint Seimas to hear the arguments of cultural organization. community and take political responsibility
