#ZigmasDakarteam preliminary corridor Arūnas Gelažninkas today the only class was the first. After 10 speed stages in the “Original by motul” category, the Lithuanian is first and the closest competitor is more than an hour behind. In the overall motorcycle ranking, A.Gelažninkas is 23rd. In the end, Arūnas didn’t have to break wheels through stones or work with an ambulance to help others.
“Today I rehabilitated myself against myself and against others. It wasn’t a bad day. He wasn’t too tired. Wherever I could, I pressed normally. I drove through dangerous places very carefully. I minimized the risk of falls and put the equipment away. He didn’t have a single dangerous situation to say that few things were missing before the fall and the like. I drove very well. As far as I know, others made a mistake while sailing. While I wasn’t wrong, there were a couple of places that we turned around on the road looking for a landmark. The speed section is very good. There were stones, but not as much as yesterday. Compared to yesterday, today is a walk in the park. What I lost yesterday, I got back today ”, says the athlete.
Speeding in Dakar can also result in a fine. The only punishment is not on time, but on time.
“It wasn’t until I got back to the bivouac that I found out that I had been fined for speeding. I’ve exceeded four kilometers per hour, it shouldn’t be a terrible fine, ”says Arūnas.
With only two gears remaining, the pilot revealed his tactic and purpose.
“The goal is always the end. If I am at the finish line and there are no additional errors, it should be a record with victories. However, we do not anticipate events because we need to finish the Dakar. The tactics in the remaining sprint sections are simple. : where I can, click, where necessary, I will drive more carefully and protect the equipment ”, says Arūnas Gelažninkas.
Tomorrow is likely to be more difficult. The longest stretch of speed of 511 km awaits the athlete. Part of it will extend along the shore of the ocean. Plus, more dunes are making a comeback, and the organizers promise this speed stretch will be a great opportunity to widen the time gap or just get closer to the leaders.
“We are going to swim, eat and prepare for the penultimate and toughest stretch of the bike,” the rider says with good humor.
