As the Americans storm the Capitol with inverted flags, Arūnas Gelažninkas will be remembered by history as the first Lithuanian to storm Dakar with an iron horse and bring gold to Lithuania.
“The feeling I know is good. Winning is always a fun feeling. He did not expect to receive such a plethora of congratulations. Throughout my sporting career I have won many competitions, it is not that I feel that I have discovered the Moon ”, says the pilot.
While #ZigmasDakarteam waits for a flight, try to enjoy the views and warmth of Saudi Arabia’s Old Town.
“Yesterday, after coming back from the speed section, passing the podium and collecting the medal, we were waiting for the podium of the night. Until then, everyone was packing their things, preparing to leave the buffalo. Today we brought a car with a motorcycle to the port and everything, we are waiting for the flight. We will spend a few more hours in the old town, here it is very beautiful ”, says Arūnas.
It is said among the participants in Dakar that more states could organize the rally next year.
“The food in Dakar has improved a lot this year, definitely tastier than last year. The tracks this year that I liked were difficult. Sure, you could say there could be fewer rocks, but they were all equally tough, they were all in trouble and I was pretty good at dealing with it. If another year took place only in Saudi Arabia, it would be difficult for the organizers to find more different routes. So maybe other countries will join, then the rally will be even more interesting, ”says Arūnas Gelažninkas.
At that time, the Lithuanian is not waiting for offers from factory equipment.
“There are a lot of fast-paced athletes who are very fast, even though they don’t reach the finish line. Therefore, I think it would not draw the attention of factory teams, especially since I am not a young man, there are a lot of fast young bees. Therefore, our goal is to work hard as a team, achieve goals and thus make Lithuania famous, ”says the rider.
The team will return to Lithuania tonight and spend approximately the 10th night in Vilnius.
“I don’t know yet about next year and the new motorcycle. I would definitely like to update the equipment and have a new motorcycle. Especially I have seen factory team racers ride new models and they look better than mine. These topics will be decided during the season, everything will depend on what we do during it ”, Arūnas plans.
The biggest reward after such a race is rest. Of course, the winners also received valuable material gifts.
“I received a Dakar watch as a gift. It looks beautiful, with Dakar logos. I have seen that it costs very little. I think I’ll use it or at least stay. In addition, we will receive a cash prize from the organizers, we will not publish so much now, who will want to jump later ”, the runner does not reveal.
After the historic victory and record, the Lithuanian will continue to train other professionals and amateurs who want to tame off-road and dirt bikes.
“The trainings with me will probably not be expensive, it will only improve their quality. More experience will be brought to the training,” says Arūnas with a smile.
