During the undercover operation, forensic agents in Marijampol, Gavatuva County, after the transfer of a large amount of excise goods (smuggled cigarettes), detained a man in whose vehicle 12 cigarette boxes were found smuggling NZ GOLD.
Later, another Seat Alhambra vehicle was found in the forest, with 4 boxes of smuggled NZ GOLD cigarettes piled up and a powerful communications jammer turned on.
The 4 people mentioned, who delivered 16 boxes of smuggled cigarettes, were immediately detained and their car was stopped and blocked in the forest at the Antanavas nursing home.
Two of the detainees carried Glock and Walther combat pistols with attached magazines filled with combat ammunition. In addition, a powerful SUV was seized during the operation and used for smuggling.
Elanas Jablonskas, Chief of the Marijampolė County Police, highlights that the fight against the shadow will continue to be a priority in the territory served by the institution.
Due to the incident, a pre-trial investigation was launched in accordance with article 199-2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Lithuania. Paragraph 2. This illegal act is punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to eight years. The investigation is controlled by the Marijampolė District Prosecutor’s Office of the Kaunas Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
