How lrytas.lt learned at the Fire Protection and Rescue Department, Druskininkai Fire Brigade to T. Kosciuškos str. and Maironio street. The crossing was called on Monday around 7:30 pm. Three cars were reported to have collided, with smoke coming from a car’s engine compartment.
Upon arriving at the scene of the accident, it turned out that one of the cars that crashed was a truck.
At least one injured woman was referred to a doctor after the accident.
Firefighters say the fire did not start. Rescuers disconnected the car’s batteries.
Meanwhile, Alytus County LSC lrytas.lt learned that the accident was caused by an inattentive official from the European Border and Coast Guard Agency Frontex, who came to the aid of Lithuanian border guards. According to preliminary data, while driving a Volvo car on a secondary road, a Hungarian citizen (born 1987) went off the main road and did not miss a MAN truck driven by him (born 1981).
As a result of the impact, a car found itself in the opposite lane and collided with an Audi A6 driven by a woman (born 1982).
After the collision, the ambulance doctors took the Audi driver and the passenger of the car that caused the accident, who is also a Frontex official, to the hospital. She was not seriously affected and was discharged after a hospital examination. According to preliminary data, the woman suffered a scare.
Meanwhile, a Frontex official who caused the accident inflated 0.29 avg. This is an allowable rule that has no legal consequences for drivers.
Rokas Pukinskas, representative of the State Border Guard Service lrytas.lt reported that a Frontex official was wearing a uniform but did not have a weapon and was involved in the off-duty accident.
Due to the accident, the intersection was completely blocked, the road here was impassable for some time.
The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
