Notification of the accident in the newly rebuilt Liepkalnio str. and Žirnių st. At the intersection, the Vilnius police received on Saturday around 4 pm 22 min. It was reported that the VW Golf struck a man.
Authorities said the car not only crashed a man on the sidewalk, but also knocked over a pole. Some witnesses say the car may have crashed into the post in the first place, and the post has already fallen on the man.
Either way, officials will find out. Meanwhile, the injured pedestrian was unconscious while police patrols and ambulances rushed to the scene.
Doctors immediately resurrected the 50-year-old man, but no one was able to help him anymore, the man’s death was reported.
According to the authorities, the injured driver (born in 1980) tried to flee the scene, but was captured. According to witnesses, after the accident, the driver jumped out of the car and ran. But he ran close, a few meters away the man’s legs entwined and he collapsed. Here he was caught by passersby.
It soon became clear that the driver was completely drunk. With the first hit, the driver blew 3.04 avg into the breathalyzer. The second hit – 3.09 away.
Together with the driver, the police detained his passenger, who was not sober.
A pre-trial investigation was launched into the incident.
