The body of a sunken man was found on a spit near the Verkiai mill on Sunday.

It is suspected that this is the cycling coach Vaidas Rimkus who broke into the water on the ice of Neris almost a month ago.

“A male body has been found. It is suspected that it is a sunken coach ”, informed BNS Giedrius Vaičiulis, representative of the Department of Fire Protection and Rescue.

According to firefighters, the body was pulled out of the water around 10 o’clock and found by members of the Lithuanian Rifle Union who carried out a selective search.

The Vilnius County Fire and Rescue Force was dispatched to the scene at that time, and information about the incident was handed over to the Vilnius Ambulance Station and the Vilnius County Police Chief Commissariat. Rescue teams were looking for a man drowned under the ice.
