Journalist Gediminas Girškevičius was 72 years old.
“A cheerful, friendly, and creative colleague was a favorite of fellow coworkers, brothers and sisters. Colleague Gediminas was born on March 17, 1948 in Čekiškė, Kaunas district. In 1965 he graduated from Šaukėnai High School. 1965-1970 studied Lithuanian language and literature and journalism at the Vilnius University. He devoted practically his entire life to journalism and creativity.
1969-1976 was a correspondent for the Kelmė district newspaper “Communist Word”. 1970 – Editor of the Lithuanian radio and editorial committee for children and young people “Žvaigždutė”. In 1982-1985, he edited the “Fires and People” newsletter of the Kelm Distrito District Fire Service.
Later, he connected his life with the Lithuanian coast, the sea. He was the executive undersecretary of the newspaper “Soviet Klaipeda”. 1989 – 1990 – Executive Secretary of the weekly “Lietuvos fisherys”.
In 1990–992, he published the Palanga Palanga City Council newspaper. 1992-1996 he was a reporter for the newspaper “Vakarų ekspresas”. 1996-1998 – Correspondent for the newspaper “Klaipeda” in Palanga. 1998-1999 – Correspondent for the newspaper “Vakarinė Palanga”.
1999 – Correspondent for the Kretinga district newspaper Švyturys. 2006-2008 – Correspondent for the newspaper “Siglo XXI”. In 2005 he published the literary almanac “Saulėjauta”, in 2008–2015. He was a contributor to the newspaper “Palangos tiltas”. Above all, he wrote about culture and art, morality, municipal work and pedagogy.
He was also active as a poet. Published satirical poetry, children’s poetry collections, poetry collections, one of the latest: “Dead and Women, Darjūra” (2016) won the Regina Beržinytė Literary Prize. Poetry collections published for children and adults “Sea of Rebellion”. , “I will protect the sun” (1979), “What children think” (1991), “The moon is a night passenger” (2005), “Kingdom of the happy winds” (2005), “Ship towards the sacred” (2007), “Holidays without fear” (2008), satirical poetry books, epigrams “Boers and Strasbourg” (2002), “So much for geniuses” (2011) and works in the journalistic poetry collection “Sušvieski, saule” (2014).
Colleague Gediminas joined LUJ in 1994. In recent years, he has actively cooperated with LUJ’s online newspaper www.lzs.lt. He wrote about his colleagues, coastal journalists, editorial works, cultural people. It was a pleasure to publish his sensitive, humanistic articles, lyrical and satirical poems.
G. Griškevičius gave 30 years to work as a journalist. It seemed that this extraordinary diligence, zeal, positivity, energy, joy of Gediminas would overcome all the problems, illnesses and misfortunes. The family of Lithuanian journalists lost a hard-working colleague, a creative poet, a good friend.
