“It just came to our notice then. He expressed the position that witnesses should be questioned first and give testimony, whether we see each other later or not. The company can give the same testimony, it can say that it defended itself. I don’t know which one. it’s the relationship with that company now, whether she’s angry or with friends. ” 15 minutes said Arūnas Saunorius, the prosecutor of the Klaipėda Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office representing the court.

On Thursday, relatives of the murdered man, a mother and two sisters, as well as another witness, testified at the Klaipėda Regional Court. The family filed civil lawsuits for the amount of 30,000 euros each.

The family members who lost their son and brother told who the murdered person interacted with, what connections he had with M. Civinskas. Fifteen years after the events, giving testimony is not easy, as some details have been forgotten. However, according to the prosecutor, any detail relevant to the case allows the general picture to be restored.

“They were relatives. We did not investigate those circumstances, about the relationship between them, the deceased and the accused, there is no one interviewed from the company who was there. They will be questioned in court. Finding witnesses after 15 years is not easy either. to someone in Germany, someone lives abroad and cannot come due to the quarantine. Not only that almost 15 years have passed, the quarantine makes it even more difficult “, the prosecutor did not hide.

The case was heard almost all day Tuesday. The interference is caused by quarantine, the premises must be ventilated every hour, and each person’s interview lasted a good hour.

Defense attorney for M. Civinskas tried to unravel the events and relationships between the men down to the last detail.

Shot in the back

According to the case, the crime was committed in 2006 when two companies met to learn about the relationship. There were three men in one group and four men in the other. According to the case, M. Civinskas, nicknamed Gang, shot with a pistol in the back. Anyway, the crime fighting tool was not found. The wounded man died in hospital the same day.

M. Civinskas, who was flying off the scene, threw his feet for many years. Family members also did not help reveal his whereabouts. Searches of loved ones’ homes did not help criminals much.

The man was arrested in Cork, Ireland, in May 2019. According to the prosecutor, his transport took more than a year.

“He didn’t want to drive, he complained about the Irish decisions.” He complained about everything. Coincidentally, another defendant outside the case was arrested in Germany. The European Court of Human Rights has been asked to issue a European arrest warrant in one place and another. The Irish have decided whether they can extradite him. It was brought to Lithuania in 2020. on August 1, ”said the prosecutor.

Praise to the researchers

It is said that the search for M. Civinskas will become an example for future generations. The agents who carried out the intelligence work were evaluated and their names were also declined abroad. It is said that during an event in The Hague, this case was considered as a model example of cooperation between countries, which gave an excellent result.

Civinskas, who lived in Ireland, stood for a long time and did not live with his identity (using foreign passports). It is said that he started a family abroad and had a wife with whom he had children.

“He presented birth certificates in court, but the father was not mentioned on the children’s certificates. He asked to be released, complained, stating that he had children. He did not hide the fact that his situation in Ireland was illegal, so their father was not registered in the certificates. But nobody knows if his children are here or not, “said A. Saunorius.

Over the years, M. Civinskas has also changed visually. The prosecutor himself says that he would not have met the man who was looking at the photos saying that he was wanted.

In 2016, Europol and the European fugitive network ENFAST added the suspect to the European Most Wanted list. Your search was published on social media.

Social media also helped agents locate agents. As Alfonsas Motuzas, head of the Klaipėda County Police Station, previously said, the search for this suspect will set an example for future forensic scientists. Numerous means were used to find it, and forensic scientists worked closely with each other, contacting English officials, where M. Civinsk had previously lived, and Irish officials.

Officials then emphasized that while the above case appears to be dusting the drawers, this is not the case, as evidenced by both this example and several recent arrests when suspects were found after 10 and 16 years.

A few years ago, Mindaugas Gadeikis from Plungė, who had been in hiding in France for 17 years and lived under a foreign surname, was convicted at the Klaipėda Regional Court. He was brought to justice for a crime committed in 2000, when his uncle died after numerous beatings while drinking. The man was sentenced to six years in prison.
