A survey commissioned by the ELTA news agency from June 15 to 25, the market research and public opinion company Baltijos tyrimai showed that four out of ten (38%) adults in the country were satisfied with the country’s democracy, and slightly more than half (52%) were not satisfied with democracy in Lithuania. One in ten (10%) respondents did not have an opinion or did not answer this question.
In the last 4 months, the opinion of the population on this subject has deteriorated slightly (the number of dissatisfied with the functioning of democracy in the country increased by 5 percentage points), and compared to the responses of the respondents a year, dissatisfaction with the functioning of democracy increased by 8 percentage points.
People under 50, metropolitan residents, respondents with higher education and the highest family income per month (more than 1,200 euros), managers, specialists and public officials, and young students are more satisfied with the operation of the democracy in lithuania.
Rural residents, respondents with secondary or vocational education, pensioners, the unemployed and housewives, and workers and farmers, as well as Russians and Poles, are more dissatisfied with the way democracy works in the country.
Only supporters of the Union of Peasants and Greens of Lithuania and the Social Democratic Union of Lithuania are more satisfied with the functioning of democracy in the country, and supporters of the Polish Lithuanian Election Campaign: the Union of Christian Families, the Labor Party and the Freedom Party are very dissatisfied.
The survey was conducted in 2020. June 15-25. During the investigation, 1,000 Lithuanian residents (aged 18 and over) were interviewed through personal interviews, and the survey was conducted at 108 sampling points. The composition of the respondents corresponds to the composition of the Lithuanian population aged 18 years or over by sex, age, nationality, type of settlement. The opinion of the respondents shows the opinion of the Lithuanian population aged 18 years and over. The error of the research results is up to 3.1 percent.
