Here in the capital, members of the Artyn Choir, who arrived at the public transport stop by bicycle and scooter, gave the inhabitants of the city an unusual show: music and good humor waiting at the trolley bus stop.
And the legendary band Polarized Glass has been participating in street music day for almost a decade. The leader of the group Šarūnas Mačiulis says that the musicians who lost the concerts during the coronavirus are happy to go outside.
“It just came to our attention then. Surely nature helps us, wonderful weather. And all the musicians long to play, which of course is a great celebration for them here, double,” said Š. Mačiulis
And the music that plays in the squares and streets of the capital fascinates not only the young but also the elderly. Women who listen to music say that not only is humor good, but music also heals.
On the streets, people enjoy not only folklore, rock, but also classical music or jazz improvisations.
Viktorija Mamontovaitė, the organizer of Street Music Day, admits that this year fewer musicians participate in the music festival than usual: about three thousand music lovers have taken to the streets.
“Everyone is on vacation, after a while, participation is not as active as usual, in big cities it doesn’t really feel that way, but in smaller cities it does,” said V. Mamontovaitė.
Residents enjoy street music not only in the capital, but also on the sunny coast. This music festival takes place in Klaipeda for the ninth time, this year 34 musicians participate.
Street Music Day has been celebrated since 2007. This year is the fourteenth party. Musicians play not only in the country’s largest cities, but also in small towns: Biržai, Druskininkai, Gargždai, Joniškis, Šilutė.
