David, who rents bikes in one of Klaipeda’s parks, makes no secret of the fact that he often has to change his tires after sightseeing trips, and if anyone asks where it’s best to travel, the guy recommends going to Palanga. If you want to go to Nida, David recommends renting a mountain bike. And not at all because there would be extremely large hills there.
“If you go to Juodkrante, Nida, choose only a mountain bike, because there the road is already” tired “, it is difficult to walk. I warn you, there is a very bad road there. Many resorted to the municipality and to another place. I know there was injured people in that bike path, but what you will do is as is, “says David.
The choice of bicycles near the Old Ferry is wide. When you are interested in knowing where it is worth traveling, the coast is said to be a truly amazing nature, so it is worth traveling both along the coast and by the sea. However, a section of the bike path represents a serious hazard.
“We offer people multiple routes, our bikes are ready for the person to travel further, we also give them a set of puncture repair supplies.” We are dedicated to tourism, so we do not rent for an hour, we rent for a day, a day or a few days. One day he comes and goes alone to Juodkrante, ”says Asta, adding that he always warns that cycling to the Nida bike trails will not be easy: many people have been injured.
Aušra Feser, the head of the Curonian Spit National Park, says that she rode a bicycle on the road and photographed it, because she wants to remind the Highway Administration of the Ministry of Transport and Communications that the road had to be maintained for several years.
“As soon as I started writing a letter to the Highway Administration, the situation is very sad. I understand that it will take time to fix that road now, but it is necessary to pave the places where there are wells as soon as possible. During the reorganization of the company ( the state company Klaipėda Region Roads was transferred to the Lithuanian Highway Administration under the Ministry of Transport and Communications under the right of trust, – note from Delfi) the bike path “disappeared”. We received calls from many people, we received many emails I applied to the Highway Administration, they promised to fill the wells, but three weeks passed after the interview, nothing, “says A. Feser.
Neringa Mayor Darius Jasaitis is considering that the situation could change if someone from the injured bike path demanded compensation for the damage. According to D. Jasaitis, state-important highway managers are now feeding on promises, but are not taking real action.
“We have received a letter stating that the bike lane is planned to be organized by 2025. It was previously mentioned that it is planned to remedy it by 2020. It requires that we sign in advance that when that trail is repaired, we will take it. Please understand, we will now vote on this in the tip, there will be another tip in five years that could reverse such a decision, so our Highway Administration doesn’t really demand anything. We still have pretty weird claims. The impression is that it’s doing its best not just to drive that bike lane After all, it is the only international bike path that leads around the Baltic Sea, “says D. Jasaitis.
The Lithuanian Highway Administration has confirmed that the previously discussed plan for the repair of the bike path by 2020 has changed. Specialists from the Department of Communication of the Highway Administration replied that only in 2019. September 25 The Highway Administration took over the management of the Smiltyne-Nida cycle route on a fiduciary basis. At the same time, he confirmed the words of D. Jasaitis that until the contract required by them, the works for the maintenance of the trail will not move.
“The route will be managed only when cooperation agreements are signed with the municipalities of Neringa and Klaipėda. Highway Administration 2019 December 18 presented draft cooperation agreements to municipalities, but according to the Ministry, the agreements are still being negotiated. According to said cooperation agreement, the Highway Administration would organize and finance the preparation and implementation of the project to improve said road. Taking into account the preliminary estimated value of the project, the length of the trail (approximately 34 km), and funding opportunities, the trail would be managed in Phases III: Phase I work will be completed in 2023 and the entire trail will be completed in 2025. According to the Ministry, the municipalities’ approvals for cooperation agreements have not yet been received, ”states the response provided by the Highway Administration.
The representatives of the Highway Administration did not explain why the bicycle lane had been “lost” for so long.
