Once these procedures are completed, further modernization of the railway line, which is scheduled for 2026, will be possible.

The currently operating route Rail Baltica regularly operates passenger trains from Kaunas to Białystok. The line is also used to transport various types of cargo and military equipment.

The total length of Rail Baltica in the three countries is 870 kilometers: in Lithuania – 392, in Latvia – 265, and in Estonia – 213. In Lithuania, the European route runs from the Polish-Lithuanian border through Kaunas and Panevėžys , in Latvia it crosses Riga, in Estonia – Pärnu and Tallinn.
