The parliamentarians called on the government to prohibit those responsible for the repression from entering Lithuania under the so-called Magnitsky law.

According to the parliamentarians, with such a step “Lithuania would demonstrate not only through political declarations, but also through concrete actions before the people of Belarus and the entire international community its clear position that human rights violations cannot be tolerated “
As the Belarusian authorities refused to allow several opponents of President Alexander Lukashenko to participate in the August 9 elections, protests erupted in the country and hundreds were arrested.
