“Luna’s house is nature and forest. Living with people was limited by her instincts and natural behavior. It should be noted that the genes of a wild animal are extremely strong, so by maintaining a hybrid of wolf and dog, people they may be attacked, ”said department head Olga Vgabrienė.
According to environmentalists, the wolf and bear reserve in the Black Forest stands out in excellent condition for wildlife and covers 10 hectares of forest. The animals here have the opportunity to live as in nature.
Environmentalists say they have confiscated the moon-wolfdog hybrid that is found illegally at the Wild Shelter Animal Shelter, to which the animal had been donated by a private individual.
Luna is a first-generation hybrid of a wolf and a dog, which is considered a wild animal across Europe under established legislation.
In early February, Environment Minister Kęstutis Mažeika also visited Luna to visit the Kaunas Zoo, where she was temporarily housed.
At that time, Lithuanian scientific institutions were asked if they would take refuge in the Luna wolf, but there were no willing people and the wolf could not live in freedom, therefore it was decided to find a place abroad for the animal.
