Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis says the case of several foreigners infected with coronavir requires a quick response, therefore the necessary decisions on safe travel and security measures are planned to be made on Thursday.
“It just came to our attention then. I constantly received immediate information about the situation in Lithuania and I see that the case of several foreigners infected with COVID-19 causes us to react urgently,” the Head of Government wrote on Facebook on Wednesday night.
According to him, the necessary decisions will be considered at the government’s COVID-19 committee meeting on Thursday.
“We will consider safe travel and security measures. We will listen to specialists and make the necessary decisions promptly. We will inform the public about them. Last week, the Prime Minister requested this week’s government meeting to prepare a draft on the application of the necessary security measures in public transport, points of sale and indoor events.

On Tuesday, 18 people from Uzbekistan were reported to be infected with the coronavirus, all of whom came to work as long-distance drivers at the Hegelmann Transport company, registered in Kaunas.
Currently, about two hundred employees of this company are being investigated, according to data from the municipality of the city of Kaunas, another case has already been identified: 19 cases.
To date, almost 1,900 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Lithuania and 79 deaths have been recorded.
