The VGT meeting is starting to assess Lithuania’s readiness to protect Lithuania’s population and environment, and will discuss the willingness of the Government and other authorities to respond to threats posed by the power plant, reports the Presidency.
“Despite violations of international nuclear safety and environmental requirements, violation of international conventions, failure to implement stress test recommendations, Belarus declares plans to start operating the nuclear power plant in the near future “The report said.
The VGT will also discuss the importance of accelerating the synchronization of the Baltic States and the implementation of the necessary measures to protect against threats posed by unsafe nuclear power plants in third countries.
The meeting will be attended by members of the VGT, as well as the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Interior and Energy, and the President of the Committee on National Security and Defense of the Seimas.
Lithuania has recognized by law that the Astrava Nuclear Power Plant (CN) is a threat to Lithuania’s national security. The country is the most active critic of the construction of the Astravo nuclear power plant near its border. Minsk rejects Vilnius’s allegations of non-compliance with security requirements.
