In fact, no one knows exactly how this house was built.
One story mentions two brothers. In the late 19th century, the two brothers inherited some of their father’s land in Boston. One of the brothers was serving in the army at the time, so the other built a large house on that land. When his brother returned from the service, he saw that from the large plot he had only a piece of land left. The family problem was not resolved. The owner of the big house said that he could not help his brother, he was the first to build his house. Therefore, the second brother built an extremely narrow four-story house on the rest of the plot, which blocked even some windows on the larger house.
Another story says that the narrowest house in Boston was built just to make fun of a neighbor. But things can be much simpler. Historical documents state that the grand plot was divided into five parts in 1884 (it is not clear why). The smallest part area was only 25.5 square meters, so someone built a house that would fit into that despicably small plot.
The skinny house in the North End sold in 2017 for $ 900,000.

On the street, the width of this house is 3.16 m, but the opposite wall is even narrower: its width is only 2.82 m. Of course, no matter how thin the walls of this building are, there really isn’t much room inside – the width of the room varies from 1.89 to 2.8 meters.
Interestingly, this house has only four doors. If you look around you will notice that there are probably more doors in your apartment. This is because each floor is a separate space. On the first floor there is a kitchen and a dining room, on the second, a living room and a bathroom, on the third, a bedroom, on the fourth, a wardrobe.
