Klaipėda “Neptūnas” team captain Simas Galdikas will try to find a place in the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. In July, at the Labor Party Congress, his candidacy was approved in Klaipeda’s Baltic constituency.
Klaipėda Basketball Club “Neptūnas” is a politically neutral organization and does not belong to or support any political force or candidate. The club dissociates itself from any action and decision of Simo Galdik that is carried out and is related to political activities.
“We respect Simo’s determination and desire to link his future to politics. We cannot influence or curb your choices. We have signed a two-year contract with him and hope that Simas will show his dedication on the field and to the fans in the first place, ”Dainius Vaitelis, the club’s sports director, told the bcneptunas.lt website.
“As a basketball player, I can only support initiatives, express my opinion, maybe be heard by people who follow me. Being in the Seimas, I can contribute directly to the changes in our state, because only here the laws are created and voted, only here can I solve problems that I constantly hear about in a systematic way.
My choice bears no relation to the “Neptuno” basketball club, it is my personal choice and would never harm the club and its reputation. On the contrary, when I finish my career, I want to be close and contribute to their well-being, so that the club reaches the heights that we once were, “Naldūnas team captain Galdikas told the bcneptunas.lt website.
Galdikas has been representing Klaipeda city teams for 12 seasons with breaks, and for the past two seasons he has been using Captain Captain “Neptūnas”, which he will also use in the upcoming season.
Last season at LKL, the 203-cm-tall, 113-kg-heavy center recorded 6.3 points and 2.6 rebounds, while in the Champions League – 8.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 11.5 utility points.
Neptūnas has signed a contract with middle striker 33 Simas Galdikas until 2022.
