In the case, it was established that on Minijos Street, at the intersection with Rūtų Street, Klaipėda, A. Duoplys, while driving a car, he did not observe and did not take all necessary precautions, exceeded the maximum permitted speed of 50 km / h. speed of at least 105 km / h. speed. On approaching an unregulated crosswalk, he did not slow down, did not stop in front of the “Crosswalk” traffic sign, and crashed into a pedestrian walking through an unregulated crosswalk, which collided with a car in the lane opposite after contact with the car. The victim died in the hospital due to bodily injury sustained during the traffic accident, reports the Klaipėda District Court.

At trial, A. Duoplys fully admitted to having committed the crime, sincerely repented and apologized to the victims.

The court recognized as a mitigating circumstance the fact that A. Duopli had assisted the victim, confessed to having committed a crime and sincerely regretted it. He also voluntarily reimbursed the victims for the costs of the process and promised to pay compensation for material damage that the insurance company refused to cover.

In imposing the sentence, the court took into account the fact that the violations of the Traffic Rules were unintentional, the person had not been convicted before, was not administratively punished and survived, therefore the court established the sentence significantly lower than the average sentence. As the case was examined after a brief examination of the evidence, the sentence was reduced by one third.

The court found Mr. Duoplis guilty and sentenced him to eight months in prison, with a three-year suspension. The man was also ordered to pay property damage of € 7,804 and was prohibited from driving road vehicles for two years.

The court’s verdict can be appealed to the Klaipeda Regional Court.
