The memorandum provides for cooperation between the Lithuanian-Polish Fire and Rescue Department and the State Border Guard Service.
The parties are committed to providing assistance in crisis situations and in the event of a disaster in border areas such as a fire.
“(…) I am pleased that they are together in extremely difficult conditions and we have managed to solve many problems very quickly,” said Lithuania’s Interior Minister Rita Tamašunienė.
Polish Interior Minister Mariusz Kaminski said his country was ready to provide assistance if necessary.
“We are ready to share knowledge and provide assistance, because we know that we can also receive it from Lithuania,” he said.
The detailed mutual assistance services will be signed in the near future by the fire and border protection services of Lithuania and Poland, according to a statement from the Interior Ministry.
The partners will also provide mutually coordinated operational assistance in cases where border control measures need to be organized in the event of a COVID-19 pandemic or other exceptional circumstances.
They will provide each other with the information and advice necessary to strengthen their cooperation and identify common challenges and potential threats, as well as to exchange experiences and best practices to guarantee the security of external and internal borders.
During the meeting in Poland, the establishment of the European Union RescEU Center (CBRN) on civil protection was also discussed.
