According to him, “Žalgiris” has finished interviews with candidates who may take over as head coach, and will present his decision tomorrow night.
The two main candidates to join Žalgiris helm are Austrian league coach Martin Schiller of the year and Istanbul helmsman Galatasaray Ertugrul Erdogan, reports Carchia.
Schiller has been the head coach of the Salt Lake City Stars team since 2017. The stars compete in the NBA G League and are the backup team for the Utah Jazz.
This season, Schiller was named the G League’s Best Coach of the Year. His trained team won 30 times in 42 games and took first place in the Western Conference before stopping the season.
Since 2015, Schiller has also been an assistant coach for the German national team.
Before his career in the United States, Schiller worked at basketball clubs in Austria and Germany. In 2009, when he was assistant coach to the Flyers Wels in Wales, Schiller became the Austrian champion.
He worked in Germany from 2010 to 2017. For the first five years, the Austrian was an assistant coach at Artland Dragons, and for the next two years he assisted the head coach at MHP Riesen in Ludwigsburg.
At that time, the Galatasaray coached by Erdogan last season in the European Cup, along with Vilnius East, stopped in Group G of the upper stage 16, in 2018-2019. In the season, the Turks did not cross the group stage, winning three matches in 10 rounds.
At the end of the season, Galatasaray was fourth in the Turkish championship.
