“In this exhibition, we present exhibits that have never been shown to the public, that could only be seen by participants in archaeological conferences. Most of the exhibits are here on the coast. Some exhibits, such as the amber buds, are only half a centimeter in size, and the largest are reconstructed pots of the Pomeranian culture from archaeological excavations in Nida, which are distinguished throughout Lithuania by the size of the pots found here. They are around five thousand years old, ”archeologist Dalia Ostrauskienė, curator of the exhibition, quotes in the museum’s report.

Among the almost 200 exhibits, there are specific archaeological finds from the Stone Age, typical of this region.

“Coastal residents hunted not only in the forests, but also at sea. They carried nets or spears to hunt for seals. From hunted seals and forest beasts, everything was used: meat – for food, bones – for tools and weapons, sinews – for threads, skins – to heat clothes and houses, and teeth and fangs were used to make appointments and amulets, which they decorated and protected, ”said D. Ostrauskiene.

The exhibit presented on the beach showcases the findings of archaeologist Rimutė Rimantienė, who celebrates her 100th anniversary this year, discovered in 1966-1990 while researching coastal Stone Age settlements. The so-called moose moose was also found here: a ceremonial stick with a severed moose head. A copy of it is presented in the exhibition, it was restored by the restorer of the National Museum of Lithuania, Jonas Petuchovas.

The exhibition in Nida will run until July 28.
