“During June of this year, the Lithuanian used car market increased considerably. According to official Regitra data, we registered a third increase in the first registrations of used cars imported to Lithuania. Counting vehicle rewriting operations already registered in the country, their number increased by up to 66 percent. The car-sharing market grew to 55.2 percent in June, “says Matas Buzelis, communication manager for Autoplius.lt.

The auto market expert says a large proportion of those transactions that were postponed during the quarantine period could have taken place during June. He also notes that the vehicle registration tax, which went into effect on July 1, has contributed to such a sharp increase in transactions.

“We saw the queues at Regitra branches in the last days of June. People were quick to register cars, and especially those with higher CO2 emissions. Often, everything is done in the last seconds, therefore, Queues formed, probably not days, but hours before the registration fee came into effect, “says M. Buzelis.

The communication manager for Autoplius.lt adds that, according to the transaction information provided by Regitra, the new car market is also gradually recovering.

“42% of new M1 and N1 passenger car transactions were recorded in June this year. Deficit of transactions, but the Lithuanian new car market is strongly affected by re-exports. Excluding the possible size of re-exports from new cars, we note optimistic figures According to data from July 1, in June the new car market lagged behind last year’s result by just 24 percent After all, the new car market fell 33 % in March, 66% in April and 53% in May ”, comments Matas Buzelis on the evolution of the market.

According to the car market expert, in June 2020, more used car transactions were made in Lithuania than during the record month of 2018. According to Buzel, July data may be more modest due to the registration tax that entered effective only in the country, likely to affect low-income drivers the most.

July will be calmer

M.Buzelis adds that more transactions can also be made in July this year than a year ago. According to the representative of Autoplius.lt, 25-30% was registered in June. more used car orders, which are strong signs of a fully recovered market.
