True, there is an important condition.
Paulius Jurelė, one of the owners of this farm, said that to buy strawberries for 1 euro, buyers have to come to the farm and pick them up for themselves.
“There is a field on our farm where buyers can pick strawberries themselves in one place. They can pick strawberries as much as they want,” said P. Jurelė.
The strawberry grower said that by taking advantage of the particularly attractive price of strawberries, people are gaining 10 or even 20 kilograms of them.
“People collect strawberries for jam, the berries freeze,” said P. Jurelė.
P. Jurelė said that strawberries grown on his farm are generally sold more expensive and explained why it is much cheaper to harvest berries.
“We already have an old strawberry field, so we allow people to pick the berries for themselves. We collect and sell the berries from another field, where strawberries grow for the second year,” said P. Jurelė.
Today, a kilogram of strawberries costs a euro and a half. P.Jurelė admitted that it is not easy to sell strawberries.
“Now there is a surplus of berries on the market, they are not only Lithuanian, but also imported from other countries. It is difficult, but we are working.” We sell strawberries in Anykščiai, Ukmergė, Rokiškis, Vilnius, Panevėžys, ”said P. Jurelė.
On the farm that operates in Bikūnai village, strawberries cover 1.1 ha. The family farm still grows blueberries in an area of 2.5 ha.
