Vilnius “Rytas” ‘s team could not save the captain Eimantas Bendžius. Due to the pandemic, the capital’s budget-cutting club and the 30-year-old forward are forced to miss out on extending a contract that could have been in effect for another year next season.

For several months, club management and E. Bendžius looked for more opportunities for cooperation and considered various options, but the risk due to the uncertainty of the next season determined the separation.

“Eimantas wanted to stay in the morning and we really wanted to see him here. But we couldn’t find a mutually satisfactory solution. Today the club cannot meet the financial obligations stipulated in the player’s contract for next season,” CEO Rolandas Jarutis commented on long negotiations with the captain. “Eimantas has always left his heart in the square, so we can only thank him for his great dedication to the capital and we look forward to his return to Vilnius in the future.”

In the LKL Championship, E.Bendžius scored an average of 10.7 points, bounced 4.3 balls and collected 11.5 utility points. In the European Cup, the captain recorded very similar statistics.

“I want to thank all of Vilnius for their support and the people of the club for looking for opportunities to extend our cooperation,” said E. Bendžius as he said goodbye to the Rytas team. “It is a shame that we have to be different, but we have to accept it. I sincerely wish the club a lot.” victories in the next season and I would like us to continue singing “Forward Vilnius” in a year or a few, together with the fans of “Rytas”.
