The proposal to allow Category B riders to ride a motorcycle is not supported

The government will consider this conclusion at its meeting on Wednesday.

According to the ministry, such a proposal could have a negative impact on road safety, since the motorcycle is a vehicle that requires specific theoretical knowledge, practical skills and driving skills, which in many cases is more powerful, faster and heavier than a moped.

“Motorcycles are considered one of the most dangerous modes of transportation, and their riders, such as moped or bicycle riders, are among the most vulnerable road users,” the ministry said.

The ministry also fears that the proposed facilitation for the acquisition of the right to drive motorcycles could increase the popularity of these vehicles, especially among young people, and have a negative impact on road safety in this age group of drivers.

The Ministry of Transport states that in order to ride motorcycles safely, it is necessary to have specific theoretical knowledge and practical driving skills related to motorcycle protection equipment (use of gloves, shoes, clothing and safety helmets), visibility of motorcyclists for other road users (such as slippery manhole covers, horizontal road markings, etc.), the peculiarities of motorcycle traffic and the subtleties of control that are not obtained by obtaining the right to drive Category B vehicles.

Currently, the Road Safety Law stipulates that people who hold an approved driving license to drive A1 to T vehicles (for example, passenger cars) also acquire the right to drive mopeds.
