Mantas Paliokas, director of the Mapa Holding company, which manages the Benas ship, says that for a long time the cities of Klaipeda and Nida did not have a waterway connecting them.

“For a long time, people could only get to Nida by car or bus. Once upon a time, the route of a ship sailing to Nida was canceled. However, this year we decided to revive it, and we symbolically called the ship” Benu. “

The name of the ship was chosen at random. Algirdas Aramin’s 1971 movie “Small Confessions” was enough for Ben, played by Vytautas Kernagis, 20, to become a legend with a guitar and four songs. The phrase “Ben sailing to Nida” applied to this hero became a cult and even became the motto of the popular music festival in Nida, and the informal Ben of the Soviet era itself was a symbol of the festival, ” says the head of the company.

Routes and price

From Monday to Thursday, Monday to Friday, the ship departs from Klaipeda to Nida at 9.30 a.m. and returns from Nida at 5.30 p.m.

On weekends from Friday to Sunday the routes are more. The ship departs Klaipeda at 9.30 a.m., returns from Nida at 12 p.m. And the afternoon flight leaves Klaipeda at 2.30 p.m. and returns from Nida at 5.30 p.m.

If this schedule is not satisfactory, it is possible to reserve the entire boat and navigate the desired route.

According to M. Paliokas, the charter route would cost around 700 euros.

“Charter routes can be different. It is not necessary to choose the route Klaipeda – Juodkrante – Nida. It is possible to sail to Mingė, Šilutė or Kaunas, because the boat is also suitable for swimming in rivers, “says the head of the company.

A regular ticket costs 15 euros for adults, 8 euros for children, the elderly and disabled, and the trip is free for children under 7 years old.

In total, the ship has a capacity for 50 passengers and 20 bicycles. Passenger pets can also travel on the boat.

On board, passengers have the opportunity to buy drinks and snacks, use the electronic guide or simply enjoy the views.

“This passenger ship is one of the most modern in Lithuania. It is comfortable and modern. We even try to do the service on board as it is on the plane.

Therefore, we offer additional services to passengers, people can not only travel from point A to point B by boat, but also get acquainted with the Curonian Spit with the help of an electronic guide. We strive to make the journey not only comfortable, but also interesting, ”says the head of the company.

According to him, passengers can organize the trip as they wish.

“Passengers will still be able to transport bicycles together. Therefore, for example, they will be able to go to the Curonian Spit by bicycle and return by boat or vice versa”, M. Paliokas mentions the advantages of traveling by boat.

Celebrities sailed on the first trip

On June 26, the ship’s first voyage was attended by famous people who shared their impressions.

“For me, Nida is special because the music festival” Benai, saigai nida “has been held there for 20 years. Just as juice stands out when preparing delicious food, I also highlight the juice, the need, to go to Nida in May or June. There was nothing better than the idea of the ship “Ben”. The motto “Ben, sailing to Nida” is perfect for such a ship. I will suggest playing all the festival hymns on it. It will be another great memory for me and at the same time, a pleasure to sail to Nida, ”said singer Žilvinas Žvagulis.

Ž. Žvagulis’s wife, also a well-known interpreter, Irena Starošaitė, admitted that Lithuania needed that ship for a long time. He also saw the benefits of ecology for the Curonian Spit.

“This is wonderful news, because you will no longer have to travel to Nida with your transport. Nature will be cleaner and Nida less polluted.

I have sailed private boats and yachts to Nida, so I can say that the views are very beautiful. While driving, I often thought about how much fun it would be to sail to Nida, because I still always want to walk there, no need for transportation there. As a result, that route has been necessary for a long time, ”said I. Starošaitė.

The former member of the groups “Mokinukės” and the interpreter of “Studentė”, Ineta Puzaraitė-Žvagulienė, was also happy with the new route.

“Although the path through the Curonian Spit is also very beautiful to me, it is a lot of fun when you can travel alone by bike. There’s also no need to worry about the green car tax, parking. In Nida, there is no need for a car in general, as it is more convenient to walk or bike here.

A two-hour boat trip provides a great additional experience for your vacation. It is a great opportunity to stay on the water, observe the beautiful nature and for the children it is a great entertainment. The ship “Ben” was really missed, “added I. Puzaraitė-Žvagulienė.

Not only Ž. Žvagulis, but also artists Victoria (Viktorija Rupeikytė) and Andrius Jovarauskas, former weightlifter Ramūnas Vyšniauskas and other famous people.
