The Guardian writes that the building on West George Street next to the Park Inn Hotel is being occupied by armed officers and civilians leave with their hands up.
Steve Johnson, Chief Deputy Scottish Police, said he wanted “to reassure the public that the incident is under control and that there is no danger to the general public.”
According to him, the police are not looking for any other person involved in the incident and that the injured police officer is receiving hospital assistance.
Witness Craig Milroy, who observed the incident from a nearby office, said he saw four people taken by ambulance.
He told the AP news agency: “I saw a man of African descent lying on the ground without shoes. He was lying on the ground, another person holding his side. I don’t know if it was a bullet wound, a knife wound or what it was. ”
“Really scary” messages
The city council said in an information note on traffic conditions that several streets are currently closed due to a “serious police incident.”
Videos posted on social media show armed police officers entering a building. Rescue cars can be seen parked on the sides.
Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon told reporters that the reports were “truly terrifying” and that she was receiving constant updates.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was “very saddened by the terrible incident in Glasgow” and that he was “with all the victims and their families.”
