With the preliminary elections for mayors of Kelmė and Trakai districts beginning on Wednesday, there was no unrest. On social media Wednesday night, people began sharing messages that the system was down and that Kelmė residents were unable to cast their votes.

Kelmiškis Nerijus Šarauskas visited Kelmė City Municipality on Wednesday. He did not come there to vote, but he also went to the electoral college for other issues.
Kelmiškis says that he got there around 4 pm and the first for about 10 minutes. During this time, he estimated, around 7 people were unable to vote. According to N. Šarauskas, some of them turned around and left without casting their vote.
Later, on social media, a mayoral candidate shared the same message and reported that people were unable to vote for about an hour.

CEC: The fault has been rectified quickly.
The CEC confirms that some outages were found on Wednesday. According to CEC spokesperson Indrė Ramanavičienė, around 6 pm on Wednesday the CEC’s IT department received a call from the Kelmė district municipality informant.
“He reported that some merger of the system has been fixed. They were not completely broken and worked, just printing the early voting sheet, we had to wait a little longer, but the process that had completely stopped was definitely not,” he says. I. Ramanavičienė to tv3.lt.
A CEC spokeswoman said it was for this reason that several voters could have decided not to wait and left without voting. However, it is recalled that early voting also takes place on Thursday, so voters in the municipalities of Kelmė and Trakai can vote until 8pm.
“As far as I know, everything is fine and everything works. Voters can go back and vote successfully,” says I. Ramanavičienė.
Voters can vote in both Kelmė and Trakai
It is recalled that the mayoral elections take place in the districts of Trakai and Kelmė. Residents can vote early in Kelmė and Trakai Townships, but the CEC would recommend voting in the Township where they are registered.
“Theoretically, it is possible because our systems communicate online, but we strongly recommend voting in your municipality so that early voting envelopes reach your districts and no one gets lost or lost,” says I. Ramanavičienė.
According to I. Ramanavičienė, the CEC receives calls from various voters. Some ask if the residents can elect the mayors of Trakai and Kelmė at the same time.

During the ordinary municipal council elections in 2019, turnout after the first day in Kelmė district was 1.65%, in Trakai district 1.21%.
Preliminary voting in the direct elections for the mayors of the Trakai and Kelmė districts began on Wednesday and continues on Thursday; voting is possible in municipal buildings until 8 pm
It is also possible to vote from Wednesday to Friday at the so-called special points: hospitals, social care institutions, prisons, military places, etc.
Voting will take place at home from Friday to Saturday and at polling stations on Sunday.
Six candidates are running for mayor of the Trakai district and eight for the Kelmė district.
Jonas Kietavičius, nominated by the Lithuanian National-Christian Democratic Union, Adas Jakubauskas, candidate of the Lithuanian Peasants and Greens Union, Dainius Narkevičius, Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, Andrius Šatevičius of the Liberal Movement, Ramūnas Aušrotas.
In the Kelmė district, Egidijus Ūksas, nominated by the conservatives, Dalia Viliūnienė, liberals, Juozas Rimkus, “peasants”, Stasys Jokubauskas, social democrats, Lina Samulytė, Lithuanian Green Party, Jolita Koryzn, and the self-proclaimed Ildevidefonsas Petke.
New elections are being held in Trakai after the former mayor, the representative of the Liberal Movement Edita Rudelienė, became a member of the Seimas. He replaced Kęstutis Glaveckas, a signatory to the Law of March 11, who died in parliament at the end of April.
The Kelmė District Mayor Election is held in June, after the term of Kelmė District Mayor Vaclovas Andrulis, convicted of corruption, expired.
