Lost garage
After recovering from the shock, the man began to explain how the garage, which he had owned for more than three decades, had become the property of a complete stranger. Then it turned out that a bug had infiltrated the Records Center database and it is not so easy to fix it. Even later, it became clear that this was not the first time that legitimate garage owners had been left in poverty.
The response was amazing
According to Virginija, Jonas Maršalka’s wife, Jonas Maršalka’s wife, who has owned a brick garage since the time of its construction, at the end of Ramygalos street, the spouse decided to cede the property to their son. The father went to the Records Center and received the news of his feet.
“We received a letter from the Registry Center that our application was rejected because the garage room is already registered in the Land Registry on behalf of someone else. Who was the person could not give us information ”, the news shocked Virginia and Jonas Maršalkas.
Through great hardship, the spouses managed to discover that their garage owner had accidentally become a Panevėžys resident with a garage in another nearby garage community. V. Maršalkienė considers that the error was probably due to the fact that both communities are registered at the same address: Ramygalos str. 150 B, both they and the man who unexpectedly became the owner of their garage have garages numbered 14, just in different communities.
“It turns out that, for some reason, the Records Center treats both garage communities as one, even though they have been registered as separate legal entities for several decades. We ourselves found the alleged owner of our garage, he agreed to go to the Registration Center to explain that he does not claim our garage, ”said V. Maršalkienė.
Came to a standstill
At the Registry Center, they received assurances that the error would be urgently corrected, but it soon became clear that regaining property rights would not be so easy. The Registry Center has stated that spouses will only be able to re-own their garage if their neighbor, the alleged owner, takes the necessary steps back in their garage. This additional burden, which would cost time and money, trembles, because your documents are all in order.
“We have all the documents that the garage belongs to us, we pay taxes all those years. In addition, the Records Center has a written testimony that the man who became the owner of our garage by mistake does not make any claim, he explained the whole situation. But instead of apologizing for the mistake and correcting it, the Records Center sends us everywhere, ”Marshalka was angered when she found herself in a kind of stalemate.
They later learned that due to a Registry Center error, the owners of at least two other garages had become the same hostage.
“It pushes us, it is a waste of time and nobody moves from the point of death. But we are not to blame for the error in the system. Absurd situation “, laments V. Maršalkienė.

It’s not the first time
Unexpectedly, Jonas Laiconas from Panevėžys, who became the owner of two garages, in garage communities 40 and 53, did not even know that he had become so unexpectedly rich. Since the construction of the garages, he has only had one garage. A few decades ago, it was common for garage arrangements to be built as the property of a cooperative: each member paid an initial contribution – a share. At the beginning of independence, there were no cooperatives left, so each garage owner handled the ownership documents himself.
“I can’t imagine how I became the owner of two garages, when I only have one since construction. Something got confused in the center of the records. After all, there are up to seven garage communities on a plot of land, registered at one address. “All my documents are in order, the clutter is only in the Records Center and he has to take care of how to solve this problem,” Laicon said.
Jonas Kubilius, president of the 53rd Garages Association, said: This is not the first case in which the Records Center has confused data. Unfortunately, the community can’t help anyone with this either.
“It just came to our attention then. This is not a problem for the people, but for the Registration Center. They have to solve it,” said J. Kubilius.
The error will be corrected
Mindaugas Samkus, a spokesperson for the Registry Center, said it would be difficult to answer now why a big mistake was made in the Real Estate Registry a few decades ago.
“This was probably due to human error, when the registration of the property rights of the objects was an error in completing the initial ownership documents and then entering the information in the registry based on them,” commented M. Samkus.
He assured that work is already underway to correct the error. A person’s request to register a new real estate file and the correct entries in the Real Estate Registry was received at the Registration Center.
“After doing so, someone else will be able to register their ownership of a specific object,” commented M. Samkus.
