From the start of the match, everything went according to Maccabi’s plan, and after a slight increase in their lead, the hosts gained a 17-point lead in the 16 – 37:20 minute. Bayern seemed to remember last season’s laps and began to close the gap, which was cut in half to 32:40.
In the third quarter, the guests continued in the wave and the 16: 2 streak allowed them to take the lead – 48:42. In 5 minutes, Ioannis Sfairopoulos even called for two-minute breaks and they helped stabilize the situation, but the German club remained ahead after thirty minutes of play: 58:54.
After 3 minutes in the fourth quarter, Bayern took the lead again – 63:54. Scottie Wilbekin started to pull his team and after his solo performance the result became the same (65:65), and soon the “yellow” took the lead – 67:65. Corey Walden hit a fantastic 3-pointer and allowed Bayern to take the lead in the final minute, 68:67.
29 seconds left Wilbekin was stopped for a foul and issued both tickets: 69:68. During the decisive attack, DeShaun Thomas did not hit the triple, but bounced the ball on attack and Darrun Hilliard had the same opportunity, but his shot flew from the perimeter.
Maccabi also won despite the loss of the basketball fight (26:34) and significantly fewer utility points: 61:84.
