Loreta Žibelienė, director of the Biržai district school department, told tv3.lt that the school is considering possible causes of suicide. The teacher committed suicide a couple of weeks ago.
“It just came to our knowledge then. And now we can’t reconcile. We already had a psychologist, another will come on Wednesday, but we still can’t accept that.
The teacher was good, thorough, honest. We talked among ourselves that maybe that diligence and the desire to do everything very well, maybe that person got burned.
Still here is that quarantine, that uncertainty, we are a rural school and we do not know what the load will be next year. Even more so when we become another department of the city school. Everywhere such uncertainty is uncertainty about work, about the future. There is also distance learning. He got along well and with everyone at school, ”said L. Žibelienė.
Teachers were offered a job at the city school, she worked for a week and suddenly changed her mind and refused. But the reasons were not disclosed, he only said that he refused.
“Now a special commission has been called, it wants to find out what may be related to work, work activities, or quarantine, or something else. They look for reasons. It is such an extraordinary event that we are all trying to find reasons, but so far we have not found anything, ”said L. Žibelienė.
Irutė Varzienė, director of the Biržai municipal administration, stated that she had formed a special commission and was trying to find out whether the suicide could not be related to the employment relationship. Psychological support is also provided to the school community.
“A working group was formed by decree of the mayor. A member of our community has retired and we in Biržai are very close; it is a pretext that nothing can really happen.
It was assumed that perhaps those reasons came from work. <...> After analyzing the information, we find that there is really no information about pressure or, as it is now commonly called, mobbing.
We continue to focus on strengthening the microclimate. We believe that in the schools that became departments in 2019, the microclimate and confidence have deteriorated and self-esteem has decreased, because the old independent schools have become departments, ”said I. Varzienė.
