This message was confirmed to TV3 News by the Kaunas City Municipality. According to them, first of all, the heating will be turned on in kindergartens, schools and medical facilities.

It is not yet clear when the radiators at home will start to heat up.

The news portal tv3.lt approached the municipalities of the main Lithuanian cities a little earlier with the question whether they are already planning to start the heating season. Vilnius Mayor Valdas Benkunskas assured that such plans do not yet exist:

“Although the start of the heating season is determined by the municipalities, taking into account the actual outside temperature, heat consumers have the right to decide for themselves how to start and end the heating of their buildings.”

An example is also given that last year the start of the heating season was on October 15.

Neither in Kaunas nor in Klaipeda did they think about the start of the season.

Prices will be higher

Mantas Paulauskas, the chief specialist of the Lithuanian Heat Providers Association, who contacted the news portal tv3.lt, also drew attention to the fact that heating prices will be higher this year than the last year. The last heating season was reportedly cheap:

“Around 30% is forecast for this heating season. Higher heating price compared to last year’s record heating season. This already represents almost 25%. Higher prices for biofuels and more than double the price. of natural gas “.

The specialist also provided a comparison of heating prices and expected prices for the upcoming heating season. For example, in 2020-2021. the average price of heating was 4.6 euro cents per kilowatt-hour. This means that an unrenewed Soviet-built apartment costs around € 52 per month for a 60-square-meter apartment.

This year, the projected price per kilowatt-hour will be about 5.75 euro cents, and the same apartment will have to pay about 65 euros per month.

Experts predict that the price of heating for an apartment of the same size in an old house in very bad condition can reach 120 euros a month this year. And in new or renovated houses, apartment owners in the same area would have to pay an average of 31 euros per month for heating.
