It became famous for fish meat.

The famous observation tower has long been famous for this Labanoras region, but Mindūnai is not only known for it. Raimonda Meiduvienė, representative of the Mindūnai community, agrees: his community is already really known in Lithuania.

“One of the oldest dishes in our community is fish, which everyone cooks here, it is a great host. Our community was formed in 2004, one of the first chefs of our fish was Stasė Vyšniauskienė. First he tasted, began to eat, fish cooked during the Lakes fishing festival.

Little by little it didn’t disappear, new hosts appeared and took over, and to this day both Irena Jurgelianec, a member of our community, and Irena Remygiene from the Lake Fishing Museum are cooking fish. They are all a little different, but we are happy with our fish and it is popular, “said R. Maidenuvienė.

Members of the Mindūnai community have written a series of projects and implemented them: “We went in the direction of providing that education, ancient traditions of fish production, we found older recipes. Even those fried minced fish on the palette.

But it was necessary to build and equip such a shoulder, we bought plates, ceramics, very nice furniture. We had all prepared for spring, but the coronavirus really bothered us. “

National tradition

These mentioned fishmints were introduced by the community at the beginning of last summer, when various events occurred, but the restrictions returned in the fall, so the activity had to stop.

“Even my husband’s grandmother, I had to try it myself, home baked with a simple fish from the lake. The fish here is simple: pike, cockroach, prayed and fried all over several times, shot on the shoulders. Tried it myself “Unbelievably delicious, those mincemeats that stick out like buns. Food so simple and saturated. And you had to hear other stories that they were making it. Of course, this was what women did at home.”

Our shoulders are in the open air, lookout, stone. Of course, that attraction is more during the warmer season, ”said R. Meiduvienė.

Bread became popular

However, Irena Jurgelianec does not hide that autumn is still perfect for such delicious entertainment. After cooking the fish, which was caught by visitors to the Mindūnai observation tower in summer, Irena already says that in autumn she has more time for meals and tastings, during which people can participate in her production process. .

Another special thing about Irena is the bread. Extremely beautiful and delicious, praised by everyone who tried it.

“And last year, when most people were traveling in Lithuania for covid, they also discovered Lithuania. Those years were good and bad, ”Irena said about last season.

This summer was busy too. Irena says that it is very rewarding when people come to Mindūnai for special meals. Families, friends, larger and smaller companies, only people traveling in Lithuania.

In this bread, three types of flour: rye, wheat, whole barley. Seeds of maybe seven species: hemp, pumpkin.

In front of the Mindūnai Tower, Irena serves fish, stew and her baked bread: “In this bread there are three types of flour: rye, wheat, coarse barley. Seeds of maybe seven species: hemp, pumpkin. Then bran, three-grain flakes. As early as last year, people started wondering why she doesn’t bake candy. That’s right, I had to bake. “

Irena cooks fish from 5-7 different species. “There is smell and saliva from our lake, and others are already from ponds. In the past, there were ropes and bream, but now they can’t be caught, so we have fish that are grown in ponds, ”said Irena.

Family tradition

And here are the malteros whose tastings Irena organizes and their season lasts much longer than the summer, from the carp and the amur.

“I moved here from Vilnius 15 years ago, and the house where I live has always caught fish. Great-grandfather was a fisherman, his items are also in the Lakes Fisheries Museum, and his children also caught and processed fish with him. A fish stew was boiled over his shoulder and the fish dried on it, and I baked those mincemeats.

I didn’t pay 15 years ago, but I gave it a try and really enjoyed it. Each minced meat was wrapped in a fish skin. When I came from Vilnius, it was great, something really interesting. Some were baked on the palette, others were boiled in a pot – salt, simple and simple spices and boiled. Such a simple, light and healthy dish ”, said Irena about the beginning.

When asked why she decided to eat more, Irena smiles; after all, you can’t stand still, you have to move on, think of something new.

No fish could be

When asked if it is easy to mobilize the community, invite people to activities, R. Meiduvienė sighs: “It is definitely not easy, because both ideas are needed and the engine is needed, there are many components.

And the municipal support that we need, because it would really be difficult for some. But you know, you do and you do. It takes effort, but when you see the result, it’s good when we attract more people, that’s all. “

This community could not really take anything that was not related to fishing in the lake, laughs R. Meiduvienė. After all, everything here always revolves around the lake.
